Near the heart of the city there are old underground Bastion tunnels that go around the city. From a war time hide out to a punk rock scene, these tunnels have resisted through some tough times. Now they are open to the public so we too can get a feel of what life in the tunnels might have been like.
The tour gave us a brief history of the construction of the tunnels and their uses throughout the past few centuries. From strategical escape routes, bomb shelters, homeless housing units (yikes) to a cool underground punk scene in the 80’s and 90’s. The tunnels go on and on, but we only got a brief tour of the most reconstructed parts of the tunnels.
